Crypto Entrepreneur Plans 450-Foot Statue of Prometheus on Alcatraz

Denver-based crypto investor Ross Calvin has unveiled an ambitious proposal to build a 450-foot (137-meter) statue of Prometheus on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay. 

The project, titled “The Great Colossus of Prometheus on Alcatraz,” would not only feature the monumental sculpture but also include a technology and innovation museum built within the island grounds. The estimated cost of the project is about $450 million.

Calvin described the statue as a symbol of innovation, rebellion, and human progress, drawing parallels between Prometheus bringing fire to mankind and blockchain technology bringing decentralization to finance.

He plans to petition U.S. federal authorities to change Alcatraz’s designation from a national park to a national monument, allowing the site to host the structure.

The announcement sparked wide debate online — some call it an audacious fusion of art, crypto culture, and modern mythology; others see it as a publicity stunt. Either way, the project reflects how deeply blockchain ideals have started influencing art and architecture.
